The Progressive Governance Conference 2009 will take place in Chile on 27-28 March. This year the conference, organized by the British think tank Policy Network in partnership with Instituto Igualdad, will focus on the "Responses to the global crisis: charting a progressive path". The conference precedes an intergovernmental summit of heads of state and government from around the world, taking place the following day. The initiative, hosted by the Chilean government and held just five days before the G20 summit, will provide a vital opportunity for the centre left's leading international figures to put forward a future vision for progressive politics.
As intellectual preparation for the conference, Policy Network edited the handbook of ideas "Responses to the global crisis: charting a progressive path" which offers a wide range of thought provoking policy proposals from different leading international intellectuals and politicians - including Martha Nussbaum, Jeremy Rifkin, Anthony Giddens and Ricardo Lagos. On https://progressive-governance.net it will possible to participate to an interactive politica debate on the issues dealt with during the conference.
